Bob French and Friends
This will be French's Original Tuxedo Jazz Band's fifth consecutive year playing Lindy Gras. Bob's band also headlines Monday nights at Ray's Room. This is by far the highlight of many locals and tourists as Bob is known for bringing to the stage some of the nation's premier jazz giants, Nicholas Payton and Terrance Blanchard just to name a few.
The late OSCAR "PAPA" CELESTIN organized the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band in 1910. This was during the infamous "Storyville" era when Jazz was Jass and Jass was New Orleans Music!
The Tuxedo Jazz Band is, historically, the longest on-going active band in New Orleans Music. The Band's mainstays are the top-flight musicians who have been parts of the group over the many years. The list includes pioneers Lorenzo Tio, Jr., Alphonse Picou, Lee Collins, Baby Dodds, Zutty Singleton, and the immortal LOUIS ARMSTRONG!
The Shannon Powell Quintet
Shannon Powell's skills on the skins places him in the top teir of New Orleans musicians. He is featured on a number of Harry Connick, Jr.'s releases, and can be found locally at both Preservation Hall and Donna's, two local venues that know a thing or two about traditional jazz.
Detroit Brooks and his Syncopated Percolators
Every year, Cafe Brasil in the Marigny, (a local neighborhood praised by locals and famed for hot jazz) features a monthly dance series called "Nickle a Dance Days" where local jazz dance bands play to hundreds of would-be dancers. Detroit's gig this year set the house on fire with New Orleans traditional jazz A-listers Dr. Michael White, Gregg Staffor, Fredy Lonzo and a host of others. Detroit is putting the band back together and will be the featured band at Saturday night's main dance.
